KidsDroid features
KidsDroid gives each app a play time and a break, adds daily limits and quiet times, and lets your child earn extra time with challenges. Everything runs on your child’s phone.
How do app limits and breaks work?
You choose which apps to limit. Each one gets a play time and a break, starting at 10 minutes of play and a 15 minute break. When play time runs out, KidsDroid covers the app with a break screen that counts down. Your child gets a heads-up 2 minutes before, and a floating timer shows the minutes left while the app is open.
You can also choose the hours when limits apply, for example only on school days. Apps you mark as always on, like the phone or a messaging app, are never limited.
Can I set a daily limit?
Yes, two kinds. Each app can have its own daily limit, and there’s one for all limited apps together, which starts at 90 minutes. Bonus time from you adds to both, for today only.
What are quiet times and lock modes?
Quiet times close every app except the always-on ones, on the days and hours you choose. KidsDroid starts with bedtime, school and homework, and warns 5 minutes before one begins. With Cloud content on, new ready-made lock modes can appear here too.
How can my child earn extra time?
During a break, your child can take a challenge instead of waiting. Each one ends the break with 10 more minutes of play, up to 3 times a day by default.
- Brain quiz: maths and spelling questions for their age.
- Exercise: 15 jumping jacks or 10 squats, counted by the camera on the phone. Video is never saved or sent.
- Real-world tasks: such as tidying up, checked by you with your PIN or by a timer. These come with Cloud content.
What do stars and streaks do?
Your child earns 5 stars for waiting out a break, 10 for each challenge and 20 for a good day. A day counts as good when you didn’t have to unlock anything, and those days build a streak.
What happens for ages 2–4?
Toddlers can’t read a countdown. If you choose this age, a break can look like the phone switching off, no internet, or a video or short video that keeps loading. It ends by itself when the break does, and holding the screen for 3 seconds opens your PIN. You can pick the normal break screen instead.
What can I do in parent mode?
Parent mode opens with your 4-digit PIN or, if you turn it on, your fingerprint. From there you can pause the phone, give bonus time, unlock one app or all of them for 10 minutes, 30 minutes or the rest of the day, and change every setting. Parent mode locks itself again when you leave KidsDroid.
Can my child remove KidsDroid?
If you turn on Uninstall protection, the phone’s pages for turning off or removing KidsDroid ask for your PIN first. It’s off until you turn it on. Someone with a computer or the phone’s safe mode can still remove it.
What if I forget my PIN?
Add a recovery email during setup. If you forget your PIN, tap “Forgot PIN?” and KidsDroid emails you a 6-digit code that works for 15 minutes.
Can I change how it looks?
Yes. Choose wallpapers for your child’s home screen and the break screen. With Cloud content on, new wallpapers and challenges arrive without an app update.
