How KidsDroid works
You set KidsDroid up once, on your child’s phone. It asks one question per screen, and for every permission it shows a short demo for your phone’s make and Android version.
How do I set it up?
- Install KidsDroid on your child’s phone. It needs Android 8.0 or newer.
- Enter your child’s name and age group. The name stays on the phone.
- Pick the apps to limit and how long each one can be played before a break.
- Make a 4-digit parent PIN. Add a recovery email if you’d like to be able to reset it.
- Turn on Accessibility for KidsDroid. KidsDroid explains why and asks for your consent first.
- On Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO phones, turn on “No battery limits” and “Autostart”, so the phone doesn’t pause KidsDroid.
What does my child see?
A home screen with the play time left today, their limited apps and their stars. While they play, a small timer shows the minutes left. When a break starts, the break screen covers the app with a countdown and the ways to earn more time.
What can I change later?
Everything. Open parent mode with your PIN to change limits, quiet times, challenges and wallpapers, or to pause, unlock or add bonus time.
Why does KidsDroid need Accessibility permission?
Android’s Accessibility service lets KidsDroid see which app is open, so it can count play time and show the break screen on time. If you turn on Uninstall protection, it also spots the pages for turning KidsDroid off or removing it. What it reads is checked on the phone and isn’t saved or sent. A notice on the phone shows while KidsDroid is on.
How do I remove KidsDroid?
Open parent mode, then Settings, then Uninstall protection, and tap “Uninstall KidsDroid”. Removing it deletes everything it kept on the phone.
